How and when do you need to start planning for long term care insurance?
Although, you may be young and healthy now you must take into consideration that this will not always be the case. Starting too early or too late could result in high premiums or loss of coverage which is why it so important to know when the right time to purchase long care insurance is. It is best to start shopping for long term care insurance between the age of 60 and 65. You may even want to consider planning once you reach your 50’s especially if your family history indicates that you may need assisted care earlier on in life. What you will do next is reach out to your agent and we can help you smoothy and successfully shop for the best company that fits your budget and needs.

How do you know when to not file a claim?
Filing a claim can your rates, but sometimes you can get away with not filing a claim to avoid the increase. If you get in an accident and the damages appear to be small or you are unsure, call your agent so they can check your coverage and help guide your decision. If the accident involves only your vehicle it may be best to cover this yourself out of pocket. If the accident is your fault, then it would be up to the other driver to decide if they would like to file a claim or not. If someone is injured in any of these situations, then you must file a claim. Just reach out to your agent to make sure you are making the best decision when deciding to file a claim.

How much does your insurance go up after an accident?
There are several different components that come into costs after an accident. There isn’t an exact way to calculate how much an accident is going to cost you which is why purchasing insurance is a great thing. Each carrier is different in how they rate an accident and has unique specifications and restrictions. Contact one of our agents to compare rates and don’t forget to ask about accident & minor violation forgiveness.

How can I reduce the price of my auto insurance?
Your auto insurance rates are related to several factors such as your driving record and credit. If you do not drive safe your payments will be higher. If you do drive safe this will keep your payments lower. You can also lower your payments by improving your credit score and purchasing certain types of vehicles. Another way to save money on your insurance is by bundling policies with the same carrier.

How much umbrella insurance coverage do I need to purchase?
An average umbrella policy starts at $1,000,000 of liability coverage. Umbrella coverage picks up where the liability limits of your homeowners and auto policies leave off. It's usually sold in increments of $1 million. Umbrella insurance costs roughly $150 to $350 a year for the first $1 million of coverage and about $100 per million of coverage above that. What you'll actually pay depends on where you live. Reach out to one of our agents to find the right amount of umbrella coverage for you.

Does my business need umbrella insurance?
Commercial umbrella insurance works similar to personal umbrella coverage. If there are any accidents that exceed the limits of liability for your underlying policies the umbrella insurance will then kick in. Every business has different needs but we typically recommend that all businesses have an umbrella policy. Reach out to one our agents to help find out how commercial umbrella insurance can benefit you.

What is renter’s insurance and how do I know if I need it or not?
Renters insurance is bought to cover your possessions, liability, and additional living expenses in place of a catastrophe. If you rent a house or apartment your landlord is not financially responsible for replacing your belongings in place of theft, fire, or other types of catastrophe. The only way to protect yourself and your belongings is by purchasing renter’s insurance.

Do I need rental car insurance?
Before renting a car, you should always make sure that you have the coverage that you need to be covered when driving a rental. Most times your personal auto policy will provide coverage for a rental car, but that is not always the case and if it does it may be limited to the value of your car and not the rental. If you do not have a personal auto policy, I would highly recommend purchasing coverage from the rental company. To eliminate the stress of having to purchase coverage through the rental company contact one of our agents to see if your personal auto policy will apply or how to purchase rental insurance before you rent your next vehicle.

How do deductibles work?
A deductible is your out-of-pocket expense towards your repair cost. The remaining amount up to your policy limits is what your insurance provider will cover. Your deductible is set by you with the intent to be convenient and not an overly burdensome expense to the insured. Contact one of our agents to help you find the right coverage at the best price for you. They will make sure you have the right deductible for your budget.

How do I know if I need to purchase insurance for my farm or not?
If your farm is just a hobby and not in place to generate a profit, then your homeowner’s policy might extend coverage for some activities. If you are farming for a profit but it is a small farm, then you may need to purchase a hobby farm policy. Insurance can be very complicated and if you are unsure about what type of insurance is necessary for you and your needs, then give us a call to find out more.
